Meet Leesa: Architect, Advocate, Mentor, Community Member

You could say Leesa’s journey in architecture began at the age of ten. While crafting plans for her Barbie’s dreamhouse, her mother mentioned,

“You

know, that’s a real job you can have”, and that simple but powerful statement sparked a lifelong pursuit for Leesa.

Leesa’s dedication extends far beyond the walls of her firm.  For her, architecture is more than bricks and mortar; it’s about empowering people.

Mentoring the Next Generation

Leesa is a firm believer in lifting others as you climb.  She mentors women both within and outside the industry, providing guidance and support.  Leesa’s commitment to education takes her beyond mentorship.  She regularly visits pre-K to high school classrooms, introducing young minds to the exciting world of architecture – a field she herself wasn’t aware of as a child.

Meet Kerri Ann: A Creative Journey Leads to Architecture

Kerri Ann’s path to architecture is a testament to the value of following your passions and the richness gained from diverse experiences.  Earning a BFA in studio art with a concentration in interior design from James Madison University, her initial artistic spark later ignited a passion for architecture.  Encouraged by William Tate at GMU, she pursued a MArch degree from Virginia Tech.

“My path was always toward architecture. On the way, I followed amazing tangents that were viewed as frustrating detours at the time, but I am richer for those tangents… My real passion in architecture is not just the creation of the space but the people who inhabit them.”

Kerri Ann points out the gravity of the

who don’t ultimately reach top levels in their field

(especially

in STEM) that they obtained their degree for. Leesa says,

“Mentoring

women, modeling positive leadership, and encouraging young professionals to find opportunities to thrive fuels my passion for the profession”.

DFC-LMA: A Supportive Environment for Women in Architecture

Leesa says she is constantly learning more ways to apply her vast knowledge to craft truly special spaces.  This extends not just to the physical structures DFC-LMA designs, but also to fostering a supportive community for women in architecture. DFC-LMA, a

, is dedicated to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for women in the field.

Kerri Ann and Leesa are each featured in

’s 30 Women in 30 Days campaign

At DFC-LMA, we believe that the future of architecture is bright, and it’s filled with talented women like Leesa and Kerri Ann.  Happy International Women’s Month!
