Services We Offer
LMA Architecture, a SWaM (Small, Women-owned, and Minority-owned Business) certified company and an active member of the AIA (American Institute of Architects), is committed to providing high-quality designs and accurate construction plans to its clients in both the commercial and residential sectors.
Consultations & Feasibility Studies
We offer general consultations to discuss your specific goals and explore potential options. A feasibility study assesses the land or existing building, along with the surrounding area, to determine if a proposed project can proceed.
Permit Drawings
Permit drawings are needed for every construction project. We create designs tailored to your specifications while working within the parameters of the site. This final set of drawings contains all the necessary information to obtain construction permits.
Sustainable Design
Sustainable design prioritizes resource conservation, even in traditional buildings. Adaptive reuse is a key strategy in the Shenandoah Valley, transforming existing structures for modern needs.
Construction Administration
Construction administration, project architecture, and owner's wrap provide comprehensive oversight during construction. We serve as your representative, ensuring smooth project completion. Our services include overseeing operations, providing architectural expertise, and advocating for your interests.
Tenant Fit-Out
Tenant fit-out refers to the process of customizing a commercial space to meet your specific needs.

When Leesa was ten, her mom discovered house plans she drew for her Barbies and declared, "You know, that's a real job you can have!" This sparked a lifelong pursuit that has been fueled by a dual passion: empowering her clients to live more efficiently and happily in their spaces and raising up other women in architecture and business. Now as Owner and Partner of a SWaM-accredited architectural firm, DFC-LMA Architecture, Leesa brings all of this experience
Kerri Ann earned a BFA in studio art from James Madison University with a concentration in interior design. Her desire to study architecture was reignited and encouraged by William Tate at JMU, resulting in an MArch degree from Virginia Tech. While completing her degree, she pursued creative jobs and worked as a mural artist and decorative painter for a local artisan. She reflects, "My work was primarily residential and utilized many aspects of my previous degree. I began the profession at a small firm in Harrisonburg where I was thrown into the world of ArchiCAD at its earliest stages. I fell in love with the 3D capabilities of the software and this means of communicating design." After raising a family, Kerri Ann volunteered at the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate, which introduced her to solo practitioner Leesa Mayfield Architecture who continues to contract her services as an architectural designer. Kerri Ann says, "I am thankful every day to be able to be in this profession with someone who is a great mentor and educator. I have grown so much in a short time and gained confidence in my ability as a designer. At present, I have completed 20 projects with Habitat for Humanity, and I am about to celebrate 4 years of collaborating with Leesa Mayfield Architecture." In her words: "My path was always toward architecture. On the way I followed amazing tangents that were viewed as frustrating detours at the time, but l am richer for those tangents. I have been a retail showroom designer, a painter, a substitute teacher, an office assistant, an intern, a volunteer, an educator, and an advocate for well designed schools for my community. I am glad that architecture was always a part of my path and I know that I am a better designer because it was not the only focus." - From AIA's 30 women in 30 Days
Ruth Rau's career has taken a playful detour. The Great Recession hit and the new mother was suddenly out of a job. Instead of despair, Ruth began designing for her newest, smallest client. She started designing toys for her own children, learning about brain development and the importance of screen-free play. She started her toy business, mouselovespig.com, in 2015, all the while quietly keeping her architectural license up to date (whew, that's a LOT of continuing education!). Mouse Loves Pig has become an international design award winning bespoke toy company. Now that her babies are teenagers (when did THAT happen?!), she has started working part time as an architect again for a dear friend and fellow entrepreneur Leesa Mayfield at LMA Architecture. Entering this next stage in her career, you can find Ruth balancing her love of design for children with her love of design in general while working for LMA Architecture and continuing to run her toy business. Ruth says, "Good design meets the needs a client doesn't even know they have while offering them an opportunity to engage in thoughtful living, or playing." The lessons learned designing for children are now being applied designing for her community. - From AIA's 30 women in 30 Days

Internship Program
We believe in fostering the next generation of architectural talent. Our internship program is designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and professional practice, offering a supportive environment where students can learn directly from experienced architects.
We've had the pleasure of hosting Abigail Alton the summer she was a rising 3rd year. We have also hosted high school students as part of the local Frederick County and Winchester City job shadowing/field trips during the school year.
