Cromwells Farmette

[Residential/Renovation/Addition]

Our clients bought a quaint farmette in White Post. The modest house ( at 1225 s.f.), had low ceilings, two bedrooms, and one bathroom with four (!) different floor elevations, but we could see the potential.

Our task was to create an addition with a family room and primary bedroom suite. We discovered that the house had three additions over the years, which explained the various floor elevations.

Green and stone house on a sunny day, with a bright blue sky. A black and white cat walks on the grassy lawn. Plants and trees in the background.

We also had site limitations with a utility easement and septic. After peeling back the layers we decided to keep the original house and the first bedroom addition.

Our addition includes a laundry room, a new hall bath with a more private entry, a living room and primary bedroom suite with a private exterior door to a rear patio. All with 9’ ceilings – a very important ask from our 6’-4” tall client.

Our addition allowed the parents a private bathroom and quiet space of their own and the children now enjoy their own rooms.

They also gained a true dining area just beside the kitchen. We opened up a former window in the kitchen to visually connect with the new family room.

Cozy living room with brown leather sofa, green armchair, wood stove, and indoor plants. Bright blue walls and ceiling fan create a warm vibe.

After demo and addition, the house is still a modest 1755 s.f., but because of the openness and flow feels much bigger. It is still a quaint farmette, however, the family enjoys the newer conveniences and improvements to their home life.

Are you thinking about starting a project? We’d love to make your dream a reality while saving you time, money, and sanity.
